VANISHED’S protagonist, Jenny, is a too-shy girl who quickly learns how strong and resilient she is when she is kidnapped. The underground world of the homeless man, Curtis, her kidnapper, is a world unknown to Jenny. At nine she is aware of unsettled life when her parents divorce; however, she is precious to both of her parents, and her trip from Helena, Montana, to Seattle, Washington is fraught with uncertainty and danger on the railroad and in the parks where Curtis finds them shelter. The Vietnam Standown figures in the novel and the network the homeless understand and rely upon does not diminish the terror of Jenny’s kidnap.
This is Colleen’s current work-in-progress.
